16/03/03 Will try to keep it a bit shorter this season. Race 1 - F400 Trophy Race. Started
from 3rd on the grid and thought I may be on for a good result, but that soon was dispelled as into Edwina's
for the first time, the new section, I was passed by about six lads. I would then pass them back at the
hairpin but was not getting them all and was slowly dropping back. O lap 7 the red mist fell and I
got my head around the new section and started to charge back throught the field, at the flag had got
back up to 8th and was in a battle for 5th.
Race 2 - F400 Championship Race. This
was going to be interesting. 27th on the grid, second to back row. As the light changed I went for
it for the first lap and was up to 10th by Edwina's one the opening lap, 5th on the second lap, 3rd on
the 3rd lap. I passed a big group each time into Edwina's and the Hairpin and actually coaught the
leading pair on lap 6. But into the buss stop hit a false neutral and the nearly highsided on the
way out as was in first gear.; that was the leaders gone, looked behind and saw had a bit of a gap and
just got my head down to the flag. 3rd place and 3rd in the Championship, cool!!
11/08/02
All I will say at the minute is look at Gallery 7 and you will see what my weekend was like. Well
it is now a week since Mallory and I can finally draw breath. Practice was fine and I put on a new
rear tyre to scrub in for the second championship race, the bike was fast, very fast. For the first
race I was 15th on the grid.I got a OK start but the bike is ujust not getting of the line well at all
at the monent. Into the first corner and Andy Kirkwood just slammed hus bike across the front of me and
how we did not touch and go down is behond me. On the back straight I got past him and a couple of others
into the Esses but again someone not sure who came straight across the front of me and I had to tap the
brakes mid turn! BIG SLIDE TIME! bu8t managed to hold it.Over the next couple of laps I made me way through
the pack and ended up fourth and catching Matt Dougerty, but at this point the back started to go off,
I put in a old rear for this race, and had to back of a bit. Onto the last lap I was having a last
push at Dougherty when on the exit of Gerrards I had a big slide from the rear which highsided me out
of the seat. I kept hold of the bars but landed on the right hand side of the bike with both legs dragging
along the track at about 120mph.I could not steer or brake and was heading for the tyre wall with the
throttle open, u-oh!. As I got to the grass I dissided it was time to get off the bike and let it have
it's own accident so push the bike away and began a long sliding tumble ending with a bid thud against
the tyre wall. I was Ok and up on me feet straight away, but a quick glimpse around showed the bike
was in a lot worse state. I climbed over the tyre wall and slumped to the ground more announed and (sorry)pissed
off the anything else. The top yoke had snapped clean in two and the forks were bent. The front wheel
was burried into th e radiators and the exhausts and the fairing was just ,well gone. The bike was
put into the recovery van and then straight into mine, that was me done for the day and on me way home
buy 12.30. Monday morning I was stiff as a post and walking like John Wayne but by Tuesday I was more
or less back to usual. So that was my first crash at Mallory and I hope me last, its bloody quick for
a little track.
3/03/02 Race 1 - Drayton Croft 1300 Open. Trust me! First race of the
year and I pick a 1300 Open race.Well it was not as bad as it could have been, 4th on the grid and a
front row start.Till the flag drops any way as all but about five bikes came blasting past till we hit
the brakes for Gerrards and I just went straight through half the field and then around a load more on
the outside. Then comes the back straight and about six bikes just blast past again. But I got a couple
into the hairpin. This goes on for six laps and would you belive I get 12th place in a 1300 open on me
little 400. Chuffed, you bet.
Race 2 - F400 Race 1. 19th on the grid. Track now all dry. Got
a OK start and enter Gerrards about 12th. Ian Hallam came flying around the outside of me in the middle
of Gerrards and I thought I'll have a bit of that and latched on behind him. By the end of lap one Ian
is 3rd , I'm 4th.And thats the way it stayed.Ian pulled away mid race but got in a scrap will Elliot
Fosey and I was closeing in but the flag came before I could join the in the party. So 4th it was.
Race 3 - Drayton Croft Final. 22nd on the grid. Last into first corner. Only 400 on the grid, but
I made the final.27th was all I could manage but I was not last and was not lapped in a 10 lap race with
GSXR1000/750/600 R1's R6's. I can live with that!
Race 4 - F400 Race 2. 25th on grid, have
I upset the ballot person? Well I got boxed in at Gerrards on the first lap and never really stood
a chance after that. By lap 3 I was 5th but the back straight of 4th. Another couple of laps as they
say but who knows. 5th will have to do. But due to engine problems for Ian Hallam my 4th and 5th I
think put me 3rd in the Championship.
17/02/03 Race 1 - Formula 400 22nd on
the grid, I seem to be only allowed to start on the last three rows at Mallory these days. The race was
dry after a damp practice and I got a fairly good start. At the end of the first lap I was in fifth pace
and sat behind Dan Williams and felling good. Dan started to pull away a bit by about lap 4 and I dug
a bit deeper and closed back in. The first three had blasted away by this point and was feeling safe
in fifth then John Coughlan came past on the back straight, I nearly passed him back at the Hairpin but
did not make it stick and held both of us up to be honest, this let Craig Mcean? up to us and past on
the front straight. Its always on the straights you see.Need the new engine.I then got in a monster
scrap with Matt Dougherty for most of the rest of the race and Dan was long gone by this point, so 7th
it was.
Race 2 - Formula 400 Much the same as earlier but with damp patches for fun?
Was much the same speed as John and Craig this time and was in seventh most of the race but Reid lost
it on the last lap and gained a place there. A lot of lads went out on wets and made passing back markers
very interesting to say the least. I opted to run on dry tyers which proved to be the correct call. Must
say bad luck to Ian Hallam who for the second meeting on he trot was flying only to blow his motor. Had
a great dice with some quick lads and can't wait till Cadwell as will have the new engine and seemed
to go well there B4 the blow up last season. Any way 6th place and 6th in the Championship. I can live
with that! To see a present pic of bike click here!
